What I Like:

Graco Snugride 35 Infant Car Seat Review - Vance

Graco Snugride 35 – Vance

Canopy and Handle – I actually LOVE the canopy. The Graco Snugride 35 offers a rotating self-supported canopy. You can literally adjust it as far forward as you want, and it still maintains its structure, no sagging. Also, the handle itself has 4 positions. Most car seats have two, one for carrying, and one back by the canopy. The Graco Snugride 35 has both of those, plus one in the middle, and one that actually stabilizes the car seat when you set it down on a flat surface.

Easy Install – The Graco Snugride 35 is pretty simple to install. You can install it using either the LATCH system or the vehicle’s seat belt. Not every vehicle is the same, and the seat recline always differs. With the Graco Snugride 35 you get a handy dial that adjusts the angle, allowing you to customize the angle based on the recline of your vehicle’s seat. You also get easy-to-read level indicators that eliminates any guess work. Plus, when using the vehicle seat belts for installation, you can use the integrated seat-belt lock-off that’s attached to the base. So in other words, you don’t have to mess with those annoying seat belt lock-off clips! You still get one though, just in case you need to install the car seat without the base.

Safety – The Graco Snugride 35 has been extensively tested. Not only does it meet or exceed all U.S. Safety Standards, but it’s also been side-impact tested, and tested for extreme car interior temperatures.  It offers EPS, energy absorbing foam, throughout the seat, as well as removable infant head and body support cushions.

Graco Snugride 35 Infant Car Seat Review - Infant Insert and SeatEasy to Adjust and Comfortable – The Graco Snugrude 35 offers a front adjust harness, which is extremely useful. If you’ve ever used a car seat that doesn’t offer a front-adjust harness, then you’ll understand what I mean. Instead of having to tighten one strap at a time, or in a sequence, you simply pull one strap, and everything tightens. Same goes when you’re taking the little one out of the seat. Simply compress the button in front with one hand, and pull up on the entire harness. It’s that simple.

Weight Capacity – Obviously, the Graco Snugride “35”, can be used from 5 to 35 pounds. What’s also nice is that you can use it up until your little one is 32″ tall. Some car seats offer the higher weight capacity, but their seats are too short.  So what happens is, your child outgrows the seat before they reach the weight limit, which is kind of annoying. Now, some children will still reach 32″ before they reach 35 pounds, that’s just the way it goes, but compared to other car seats that only offer 30″, I’d say you’re getting more bang for your buck.

What I Don’t Like:

Graco Snugride 35 Infant Car Seat Review - WidthWidth – The Graco Snugride 35 measures 18.7″ wide, which is quite a bit wider than most. So it takes up a lot of space. If you have two other kids that you’re trying to fit in the back seat, it’s going to be a tight fit, especially if you have another car seat. A couple reviewers also complained about it being too wide for some of those old wooden high chairs at the restaurant. Also, because it has a seat that goes up to 32″, it’s pretty long. A few reviewers found that they had to move the front seats up slightly just to get it to fit in the back seat.

Customer Feedback:

As far as customer reviews go, the Graco Snugride 35 Infant Car Seat did really pretty well. With 40 out of 56 reviewers rating it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the best. In other words, 71% of the reviewers were extremely satisfied. Most of the 3 star reviewers had a few complaints, but overall would still recommend it.

The most loved features were:

  • Self-supported canopy
  • 35 pound weight limit
  • Easy front-adjust harness
  • Sturdy and SAFE!
  • Adjustable base & seat belt lock-offs

As far as complaints go, the number one complaint was probably the size and weight. The Graco Snugride 35 weighs 9.7 pounds without the base. This is actually pretty average for a car seat that goes up to 35 pounds. Of course, once you add you baby to the mix, it can get pretty darn heavy, but that’s just par for the course if you want an infant car seat that will accommodate a larger baby. One thing I will say, the Graco Snugride 35 is wide. As I mentioned above, it measures 18.7 inches wide with the base, which is wider than most infant car seats currently on the market. It’s also long. It measures 30.7 inches long with the base. There were a few reviewers that had trouble fitting it in the backseat of their car without having to push the front passenger seat forward. Now, the Graco Snugride 35 has a seat height of 32″, so it has to be long.

That brings me to my next complaint. There were a few reviewers that complained about their little ones outgrowing the seat height before they outgrew the seat weight. The thing is, 32″ is the most you can get right now. So, if you want an infant car seat that will get you closest to that 35 pound weight limit, the Graco Snugride 35 is probably your best bet. Now if your baby is in the 97th percentile for height, you may just want to consider getting a Graco Snugride 30 which is lighter, and then move them to a convertible car seat sooner, rather than deal with a heavy infant car seat.

Graco Snugride 35 Infant Car Seat Review - Image of Child in SeatThe only other common complaint was regarding the missing shopping car slot. The Graco Snugride 35 does not have this feature for a reason. It’s NOT SAFE!! In fact, if you do a little research, you’ll notice that all of the leading brand car seat manufacturers, including Britax and Chicco, are no longer offering this feature as well. The convenience is NOT WORTH the risk.

All in all, if you want a safe, durable infant car seat that will last longer than most, than the Graco Snugride 35 is perfect. Just keep in mind, if you have a compact car with a small back seat, this may not fit. If you’re less concerned about long term use, and you’re looking for an infant car seat that’s lightweight and convenient to use, the Graco Snugride 30 is about 2 pounds lighter, and 3 inches shorter.
