Meet Diono (dee-oh-no), formerly known as Sunshine Kids. They changed their name back in September 2011 mainly because Diono was already their universal name, and sales were heating up overseas.
Let me give you a little background first. Diono, FKA Sunshine Kids, has been winning “Most Innovative Product” awards since 1999 when they first designed the world’s first, and only, seat-belt tightener. After that, things really took off.
They first introduced the Radian Car Seat back in 2005. It was the first steel-reinforced folding car seat ever designed. They wanted a car seat that was not only durable and safe, but convenient and easy to travel with.
Now, skip ahead a few years and we now have the Diono Radian R-Series convertible car seats, designed to be rear-facing, forward-facing, and a booster seat all in one. They are meant to be the only car seats you will ever need, offering a 10 year lifespan. Imagine, never having to buy another car seat again.
Diono Radian R-Series Car Seats
There are three convertible car seats in this series, the Radian R100, R120, and RXT. All three car seats are very similar in design. They offer the same steel alloy frame with reinforced aluminum side walls and EPS energy-absorbing foam panels. They also offer the same Safestop energy-absorbing harness designed to absorb energy and reduce impact to smaller forward-facing children. The only real difference between these three seats is the weight capacity.
The Diono Radian R100 can be used rear-facing from 5 to 40 pounds, forward-facing and harnessed up to 65 pounds, and then as a booster seat up to 100 pounds.
The Diono Radian R120 and Radian RXT can both be used rear-facing from 5 to 45 pounds, forward-facing and harnessed up to 80 pounds, and then as a booster seat up to 120 pounds. Let me just add that 45 pounds in rear-facing mode is the highest currently on the market. Both also offer infant body support cushions, and a memory foam seat pad.
The Diono Radian RXT goes one step further, offering an adjustable head rest with 12 height adjustments.
The head rest is the only difference between the Diono Radian R120 and the Radian RXT. Well, that and all the new color schemes, including cobalt, plum, and spring.
